πΏ What is Kenyan Spiced Chai?
In Kenya, chai isn’t just boiled water and tea bags. It’s rich, milky, and infused with aromatic spices like cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, and fresh ginger. Known locally as “chai ya tangawizi” (ginger tea), this beverage is a staple in many households, especially during chilly mornings or relaxed evening conversations.
It’s the kind of drink that brings people together — whether it’s a family breakfast, a chat with a friend, or a quiet solo moment with your thoughts.

When the ginger hits your throat and the cardamom teases your senses, you know it’s more than just a beverage — it’s home.
You’ll find chai on street corners, in office flasks, on roadside kiosks, and in every kitchen that has a story to tell.
And the best part? Everyone has their own version — some add black pepper for a kick, others sweeten it with honey, while a few even use coconut milk for a twist.

π΅ Spiced Chai Recipe (Kenyan-Style Masala Chai)
Ingredients (Serves 2):

2 cups whole milk (or half milk, half water)

1–2 teaspoons black tea leaves (or 2 tea bags)

1–2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)

Spices:

1 cinnamon stick (or ½ tsp ground cinnamon)

2–3 cardamom pods (crushed)

2–3 cloves
-
½ inch fresh ginger (grated or sliced)

Optional: pinch of black pepper or star anise

Instructions:

Heat the Milk & Spices:
In a saucepan, add milk, spices, and sugar. Simmer gently over medium heat for 3–5 minutes to infuse the flavors. -
Add the Tea:
Add black tea leaves or tea bags and let it simmer for another 2–3 minutes. Stir occasionally. -
Strain and Serve:
Strain into mugs using a fine mesh sieve. Serve hot and enjoy the warmth!
